PES is an acronym for Physical Employment Status or PULHHEEMS Employment Status. It is a grading system originally devised by the United Kingdom’s armed forces to determine the suitability of deploying military personnel for combat and in other vocations.

What is PES A in NS?
Right now, pre-enlistees are assigned a PES status, which is a factor in determining their vocation during National Service (NS). For example, those assigned PES A — the highest standard — are deemed fit for all field activities, including front-line duties and direct combat.
Does PES B4 need IPPT?
Requirement. IPPT is a mandatory annual (within a 12-month period, i.e. your IPPT window) requirement for all eligible NSmen with PES A, B/ B1/ B2/ C1 status. You do not need to fulfil your IPPT requirements once you are: Phased into MINDEF Reserve (MR)

- Monthly Service Pay of an Infantry 3SG = $990. Service Pay for this period: = (12/31 days x $990)
- Total loss in civilian income during your ORNS activity: = $1,250 + $125 + $30.84. = $1,405.84.
- Result: Your Make-Up Pay for this period: = Your loss in civilian income – Service Pay for the duration of your ORNS activity.
Can I work during NS?
According to the Ministry of Defence, they cannot do so. NSFs are not allowed to undertake salaried or contract employment, or run a business while serving their full-time NS commitments. However, those whose families face financial hardship may apply for financial assistance grants.

How long is NS medical check?
about 2.5 hours
There are six stations in the medical screening process and they will take about 2.5 hours to complete. Should there be any abnormalities detected as you go through the respective stations, you may be asked to go for a further medical review.
